Whether you are an experienced small-group traveller or are considering your first small-group tour, you are bound to have some questions. Here we've put together some of the most common questions we get asked about our tours of England and answered them below. BEFORE YOU BOOK
How can I book a tour?
The best way to book a tour is directly through this website using our online booking system. It’s clear, simple and secure. We accept a variety of credit and debit cards, as well as PayPal. On the tour page, click 'Book Now!' and choose your preferred date and accommodation type. Then complete your information and once your booking has been confirmed and we will send you a confirmation email. That's it!
A typical GO-tours passenger is..?
Anyone! You are welcome to join us whether you are a single traveller, a couple, a group of friends or a family (with children over 12!). Typically, most of our guests fit in the 30-60 age bracket, but our tours are designed to be suitable for everyone!
What if I'm a solo traveller?
We thinking going solo is a great way to travel, and encourage single travellers to join us on tour! Our tours travel in small groups, so the atmosphere is very friendly and it's easy to get to know your fellow tour companions.
Is the tour guaranteed to run?
We only require a minimum of two bookings guarantee departure for our day tours. In the unlikely scenario we have to cancel our multi-day tours we will provide you with 4 weeks notice. You will then have the choice between a full refund or moving to a different departure date.
How many people are there on each tour?
The maximum number of passengers on our small groups tours is sixteen, but many of our tours will also run with a maximum of group number of eight. By travelling in small groups we aim to create a more personal and friendly tour environment, and provide a more authentic tour experience. In addition, by travelling in smaller vehicles our tours can use smaller country roads and access locations that many other tours cannot!
What accommodation will we stay in?
When you book your tour, you will be given a choice of accommodation type - you can choose to stay in either B&B's or Hotels, and this is included in the price. This choice is based on your personal preference and will apply to all nights of your tour with us. We think that giving you the choice of where you stay is the best way of ensuring you get the right accommodation for you! For more information, check out our 'Tour Accommodation' page.
PREPARING FOR YOUR TOUR
Where do the tours start?
Our tours depart from the Mercure London Kensington Hotel, in Earls Court, London, which is easily accessed from central London or Heathrow Airport via the London Underground. We will leave the hotel at 08.30am on the date of departure and kindly ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to this time. For more details check our 'Meeting Point' page.
Where should we stay before and after the tour?
You are welcome to stay at the hotel where the tour starts and finishes; the Mercure London Kensington. All guests travelling on our tours will receive a 20% discount when booking any stay at the hotel, just click here to book. If you wish to stay nearby, the Mercure Hotel is located in Earls Court, one of London's main accommodation hubs. There are many hotels and B&B's in the area to choose from.
How much spending money should I bring?
Of course it depends on you, what you intend to do and what you want to get out of the tour. As a general rule, allowing an average £50 per person per day would be more than enough for meals, attractions and a few unexpected extras!
Is there a luggage allowance?
Due to weight restrictions and our vehicle luggage space, each person may bring one suitcase and one carry-on item, such as a backpack. We ask that your suitcase does not exceed 20kg in weight. If your luggage is too large or heavy, then we may not be able to accept it.
What if I have dietary requirements?
If you have any specific dietary needs or allergies, then please make this clear when you make your booking. We can then pass on this information to your accommodation. Failing this, please be sure to notify your Tour Leader at the start of the tour.
Will we need any specific clothing?
We suggest you bring footwear that will be comfortable to walk in. There may be times where you wish to walk for long periods, or over uneven ground, so walking shoes or trainers will be required. Should we have travel insurance?
We ask that all of our guests travelling with us have appropriate travel insurance cover.
DURING THE TOUR
What is a typical day on tour like?
We normally begin our days around 9am, and you will be picked up directly from your accommodation. Whilst travelling in the minibus your Tour Leader will provide interesting commentary. We try to ensure that you will never be on the road for more than two hours at a time, and we will always try and stick to the scenic country roads. At each stop your Tour Leader will explain the relevant history, details of the places of interest and attractions, suggest places to eat and answer any questions you may have. The day normally concludes around 6pm, and you will be dropped back off directly at your accommodation.
What is a Tour Leader?
Your Tour Leader is your driver, your guide and your comrade on the road. The Tour Leader will have all the necessary qualifications in order to drive you safely from place to place and will also provide interesting historical commentary about all of the places that you visit. During the tour if you have any problems or questions, your Tour Leader will be there to help. Our Tour Leaders are passionate, hard-working and there to help ensure you have a fantastic, memorable tour.
Are admission fees included?
Entrance fees to attractions are not included in the cost of the tour. We want to give you the choice of how you spend your time in the places we visit. We will advise you of the things you may want to do and the relevant admission fees where necessary. As a general rule we aim to keep visits to fee-paying attractions to a minimum.
What are examples of attractions and costs?
Here are examples of the main attractions and the costs of the ‘Cornwall and the Cotswolds' tour (Prices correct for 2019):
- Stonehenge - £21.10 adults, £19.00 concessions, £12.70 children
- Salisbury Cathedral - £7.50 adults, £6.50 concessions, £3.00 children
- Minack Theatre - £5.00 adults, £2.50 under 15's
- Roman Baths, Bath - £20.00 adults, £18.50 concessions, £12.50 children
Here are examples of the main attractions and the costs of the ‘York & the Lake District' tour (Prices correct for 2019):
- Kings College - £9.00 adults, £6.00 children
- Lincoln Castle & Cathedral - £18.00 adults, £15.00 concessions, £10.00 children

- York Minster - £11.50 adults, £10.50 concessions
- Chatsworth House - £22.00 adults, £12.50 children
- Shakespeare's Birthplace - £17.50 adults, £16.50 concessions, £11.50 children
Are meals included?
Meals are not included in the tour, but we will give you suggestions of where to find good local restaurants, cafés and pubs and you are free to choose. On some evenings you are welcome to join your group members and Tour Leader for dinner.
What is the accommodation like?
The accommodations we arrange for you are places we know and like staying in. They are places that will provide a friendly welcome, nice rooms and of course a great English breakfast! When you make your booking you are able to choose between B&B's and hotels - find out more here. Please be aware that B&B's will not have lifts so if you require a gound floor room, please make this clear when completing your booking information.
Will you drop us off at our accommodation during the tour?
Yes of course. At the end of each day, you will be taken directly to your accommodation. If you have difficulties carrying your luggage, help will be provided. You will also be collected directly from your accommodation each morning!
Are GO-tours environmentally friendly?
We strive to ensure that our operations have as little impact on the environment as possible. We always use efficient vehicles, and by operating tours we are taking cars off the road. We also work with environmental organisations, and fund tree planting projects, in order to offset our carbon emissions. See our ‘Sustainable Tours' page for more details.
Does GO-tours receive commission from hoteliers?
No. It is part of our company policy that we never receive any commission from accommodation providers. We have chosen to work with selected hotels and B&B’s simply because we have visited many accommodation providers and those are the ones we like. At GO-tours it is important for us to maintain a positive relationship with our partners; working together to provide you the customer with the best experience possible. In order to maintain high standards, GO-tours does not receive any commission from any accommodation providers.
Is there a level of ‘fitness’ required to enjoy the tour?
We suggest that to make the most of our tours you need to be comfortable walking for long periods. However, the tours are for you to enjoy as you wish. For those who enjoy walking and hiking there will be opportunities to do so. For those who wish to enjoy a more relaxed pace, you can enjoy the tour at your leisure Our tours are not strenuous, but are deisgned to make the most of each day and give you sufficient time to explore each place we visit. If you do have any underlying health issues, we kindly ask you to let us know when making your booking, and we can advise you as necessary.
What type of vehicles do you use?
We use luxury Mercedes vehicles which are fully air-conditioned, have leather seats, tinted passenger windows and device charging facilities. They are extremely efficient and able to achieve 40+ miles per gallon. Our vehicles are a maximum of two years old and are regularly maintained and serviced.
Is the tour itinerary flexible?
Yes. The tour itineraries are designed to make the most of each day, however, there is a level of flexibility. Due to the nature of small group travel, your Tour Leader may be able to make small amendments to the itinerary if there is group consensus. Of course, if you have specific places you want to visit, and dates you wish to travel, then you may prefer to 'design' your own tour. Please see our 'Bespoke Tour’ page for more details.

What is GO-tours cancellation policy?
If you have booked a tour with us and need to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible. If you have to cancel then you will incur a charge, depending on how much notice you are able to provide. For our full cancellation policy, please read our Terms and Conditions.
