Supporting London’s foodbanks

GO-tours Foodbank 1

At the start of 2020 we were looking forward to what promised to be our best season yet, and we were excited to hit the road on our small-group tours across Britain.

Then the Coronavirus took hold and life as we know it changed, at least for the short term. Over recent weeks and months we’ve all seen many changes to our normal way of life, such as social distancing and isolation, implemented widely to help slow the spread of Coronavirus and save lives.

As a result, businesses have been faced with unprecedented challenges and as a small family-run company in the tourism industry we have, and continue to find our way through.

During these strange times, here at GO-tours we wanted to help the wider community and contribute positively during this crisis in any way possible.

So we made contact with the Trussell Trust, a Foodbank organisation here in the UK. With social activity restricted and demand for food greater than before, our Foodbank centres were put under extra strain, and their clients no longer able to collect crucial supplies from local centres.

So we offered our voluntary support to help Foodbanks, by providing a delivery service.

We turned one of our minibuses into a food delivery vehicle and used it to transport supplies to those who are most in need, but no longer able to collect it themselves.

A typical day sees us travel from our base to a Foodbank centre, and on arrival help prepare our deliveries, plan our route and load all of the food packages onto our minibus. We will then head out across London to make our deliveries which can take anything from a few hours to an entire day to complete.

We have delivered to the Camden, Westminster, Islington, Peckham and wider Southwark areas. It has been an interesting challenge, and we have had to adapt to travelling with bags & boxes of food rather than people!

Over the last few months we have made over one thousand deliveries to homes and families across central London.

The Foodbanks we have worked provide essential supplies to those that need it most. In these strange times, if you are able to help support them, it would be hugely appreciated. To find out more about the Trussell Trust, please click here.

Here at GO-tours we’ve done everything we can so that when travel returns to ‘normal’, we’ll still be here, exploring Britain on our small-group tours.

In the meantime, stay safe and well. We hope to see you on one of tours soon!
