Our Complete Cotswolds tour from London begins by departing London to the north-west and travelling towards the quintessentially English countryside of The Cotswolds. We’ll pass through the scenic Chiltern Hills, before arriving in the Cotswolds, an officially designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, famed for its beautiful countryside landscape, charming villages and honey-coloured stone cottages.
Our first stop in the Cotswolds will be the small town of Burford, known as the ‘Gateway to the Cotswolds’ and one of the best preserved Medieval towns in the region. Many of the buildings here date back 600 years, and whilst here there will be time to explore, visit the stunning church and stroll along the high street to visit a mix of independent family-run shops. Next up we’ll visit Bibury, often described as ‘the prettiest village in England’. Here you can see the iconic Arlington Row; and get up close to a set of old weavers cottages that are now one of the symbols of the Cotswolds. We’ll continue through the countryside towards Stow-on-the-Wold; the highest town in the Cotswolds is a jumble of ancient inns and antique shops located around the bustling market square. This historic town has been a centre of trade for centuries, was a favourite of JRR Tolkien and was also the location of the last battle of the English Civil War in March 1646. We’ll also visit Bampton, a pretty village steeped in history. Home to thatched cottages and charming buildings, this village has also featured as a filming location, doubling for the fictional village of Downton, in the popular period drama, Downton Abbey.
During the day we’ll also pass several smaller & lesser-known villlages; getting off the beaten track to experience the ‘quieter’ Cotswolds. We’ll take meandering drives through the rolling hills and travel along narrow country lanes. We’ll pass farms, country estates, historic lodges and miles of dry-stone walls as we absorb the best parts of this beautiful and charming region.
Our Complete Cotswolds tour from London concludes at the Mercure Kensington Hotel by approximately 6.00pm.
